fallen in love yet?
if you haven’t you soon will! I was introduced and convinced by a few other makeup artists that i should try out Dior eyeshadow palettes.
-minimal fall out
-great pigmentation even with the brightest of colours
-blend’s like a dream
-5colours in each palette
-New fall palette’s smokey browns and washed purples
With the price point and the practicality of small palettes something to cry about, for an indivual indulgence its the way to go.. you’ll get the best for your money and im convinced you won’t turn back!

The Lazy City!
I bet alot of people like myself wakeup like the cornflake monster and struggle with the morning process of primping and pruning oneself!
Solution..why get ready yourself when someone can do it for you?
Vancouver’s boutique stores seemed to have catered to the lazy gal and boy inside all of us.
Why apply mascara and lashes your-self when you can wake up with semi-permanent lashes on? Wink can take care of that for you.
Always end up looking like a drag queen when applying makeup? Head to Rouge a new makeup lounge where for a pretty peny you can have a makeup artist apply their art to your face!
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=126114514085629&v=wall
Find blowdrying your hair a hassle, head to BLO where people will just do it for you!
Unrully mono-brow? head to an Indian style brow salon.
Now for the really lazy bit all these stores are within a 2 block radius so really no need for that driver!
(Remember this is only if you have an excess amount of time and money avaliable otherwise pick up some tweezers, a hairbrush and a compact and do it yourself)

There is no plan B!
PASSION
( from Latin verb patior meaning to suffer or to endure) is an emotion applied to a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something. The term is also often applied to a lively or eager interest in or admiration for a proposal, cause, or activity or love.
I recently came accross this video of “Wills Wisdom” and would like to share it with you. I believe it represents a true sense of what passion is, passion for life and for what you strive for.

Maybe its Maybelline?
I was given a sample of this lipgloss at New York FW in feb this year and have been looking for it on the shelves since.
Its cheap as chips, lasts fairly well, non-sticky, has a hint of a tint, it also gives a great shine and the product doesn’t come with glitter in it so you won’t end up looking like a 14year old school girl.
Coming in array of colours this product would be great to add to a kit or an everyday makeup ensemble.
So check it out!

Left brain guide for the right brained artist.
Left brain guide for the right brained artist.
Turning what you love doing into your job can be quite the rude awakening!
Starting out as a makeup artist and naturally a right brained person I struggled with my fantasy of doing what I loved, viewing it as an art, to changing it and forming it into a money making operation with out destroying my drive that put me into makeup in the first place.
As a freelance artist you deal with all aspects, from the finding of work, the application of work, marketing, keeping an updated portfolio in hard and web format, networking (partying with a purpose), updating knowledge of your craft and the industry people and trends, to following up with clients for payment, images from photographers, thank you notes, your taxes or billing,
I can’t lie at least once a month frustration sets in and I take a break. Then I realize why I do this work freelance; its because of the flexibility, its hands on and creative, and I get to work with and meet talented artists It also keeps me on my toes as its always changing and never the same. I feed my own ego with the finished result, and I have an unsated drive in me to keep going and do what I love.
For me the biggest help I got apart from getting my ass kicked into gear and learning to view what I do as a business and not just as a hobby, was buying Crystal Wrights Hair Makeup and Styling guide.
http://thestore.crystalwrightlive.com/category_s/2.htm
This book made me one smarter business artist and I would recommend it to anyone in the fashion/beauty/tv/film industry. It gives advice on how to handle your accounts, to approaching agencies/photographers, to how your portfolio should be presented and who are the go to people for schools, supply stores, agencies all over the world, to working with record labels, magazines and production companies.
The knowledge I gained from this book plus my passion for my craft continues to help me strive for my goals, with focus, passion, dedication and direction.
Good luck to all the artists out there who are starting up like myself and if you buy the book I hope it is as helpful to you as it has been to me!

INKED?
I’ve spent the past weekend working at VPW’s (Vancouver’s Photography Workshop) for their tattoo seminar hosted by Vince Hemingson who also directed the Discovery channels documentary “the Vanishing tattoo”. http://www.vanishingtattoo.com/
There have been many stories that people have told me about their tattoos and for alot of people that i spoke to getting a tattoo signifies a time of change in a persons life whether that be divorce, a separation from family or a time where they had travelled. Tattoos tend to represent new beginnings or past events with people using their bodies as story boards. There are others where it would be a work of art for them, i spoke to one lady who had tattoo’d black designs onto her body so that the idea of her art work was that the pattern came from the negative space between her tattoo. There was one man from New Zealand who was a member of the Maori people who had his Chief in NZ to give his blessing by tattooing the tribal mark across his face so he could come to Canada to lead his own Maori tribe.
All in all no tattoo is the same, everyone has its story and its own signature which separates it from the rest. Also i am proud to have found out that i am not the only unique one with an elven tattoo out there!

‘ITS GLAMOUROUS BUSINESS, DARLING!’
It is very very rare that as a makeup artist you are given a beautiful makeup studio to work in with white walls, counter tops, mirrors! and with correct lighting. It just doesn’t happen very often. Probably 80% of the time i am in the back of a car, food courts or working with no station at all and if you get a mirror in front of you, you are bloody lucky!
But working in tricky situations sometimes turn out to be the most enjoyable and memorable shoots that you do. Having to adapt to the environment it makes you learn quicker and faster by dealing with all kinds of elements.
Yesterday i worked on one of the best shoots i have ever done, a shoot where quick sand took down the model and myself and we had to be rescued by the photographer and stylist on set and incorporate the after look into the shoot! Here are a few behind the scenes shots courtesy of Mike Chatwin..
